"My hands hold the brush and my heart blows life into it."
Ali Golkar

Mirror of Dreams

Born in 1948 in historic Isfahan, Gokar brought with him, when he settled in the United States, a wealth of historical and mythological background. Steeped in the culture of Europe and the Orient, he began to explore the reaches of his consciousness and translate them into imagery. Golkar's unconscious aim is to transcend conceptual boundaries and to create a new synthesis, a new world of expression, where his thoughts become translated. His painting provides him with a model for ordering his dreams, desires and visions. His work is a metaphor for the outreaching of his soul, and in this way his art becomes an invocation for all our souls, allowing us to trace back to our own experience things we have often felt but not been able to express.

The Concept of My Art

I work with themes of love, beauty, music and poetry, attempting to convey the grace and joy of life. I draw from Greek mythology, Renaissance mythology, and have been influenced by the expressionism of twentieth century French humanist art. My art, as my poetry, is a continual process to put my inner experience into visual terms that can be grasped by others.
